Western Health’s Online Screening Program for Mental Health and Substance Use Issues

September 6th, 2017 by Smokers' Helpline

News from Western Health:

Western Health is promoting an online screening program to provide fast, anonymous, online screening for mental health and substance use issues. Screening is important for early identification and intervention for mental health and addictions issues.

“Mental health is a key part of your overall health. We hope this screening program provides an opportunity to get people thinking about mental health as being a part of their overall health and well being. Just as you would get a check-up for your physical health, it’s important to get a check-up for your mental health,” said Tara Welsh, Regional Mental Health Promotion Consultant.

The new program will help connect individuals in need to local supports and services. The screening is completely confidential and participants will be able to quickly see their results, recommendations, and key resources immediately following a brief questionnaire.

Take a screening at www.checkitoutnl.ca using your mobile device, tablet or computer. The screening program is intended for people over 18 years of age and includes screenings for:
Depression
Bipolar disorder
Posttraumatic stress disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder
Eating disorders
Alcohol use disorders
Substance use disorders
Brief screen for adolescent depression (for parents)

Screening awareness events will be offered at various community locations to promote the online screening tools. People will have an opportunity to complete a screening tool on-site with the mobile devices provided. For more information about the program or to find a screening awareness event near you, call 709-634-4171 or go to mha@westernhealth.nl.ca.
