Sign up to tips and reminders to help you stay on track with your quit plan.

The texts include brief, practical tips to help you move forward with your quit plan. They include information to help inspire and motivate you to quit, ideas for ways to get through cravings, strategies for handling withdrawal, an overview of smoking cessation products and medications available at the pharmacy, and more!

When you sign up, we will ask about your current tobacco use.  There is different program content depending on whether you smoke, if you have recently quit (and are looking for help to stay smokefree), or if you vape.

The texts are sent by Quit Coaches based at our Helpline office (in St. John’s), so you would receive them within our regular business hours Monday to Friday. Often the texts are sent around lunchtime.

You can text us back by responding to any of the texts you receive from the Helpline. Our phone number (to text) is 709-700-7002. We can help answer any questions you may have, and provide extra encouragement and motivational support.  As well, you can text one of the automated ‘keywords’ – CRAVE or SLIP. The program is fully monitored and delivered by our team of Quit Coaches here at our office in St. John’s, NL. 

Simply text us back STOP at any point to discontinue and stop receiving texts from the Smokers’ Helpline.  As well, throughout the 12 week program, after every 2-3 weeks we will ask you to confirm if you’d like to continue receiving the texts.  We invite you to try it out! Most of our participants request to continue on with the full program because they find the daily reminders & tips so valuable!

The Helpline partners with a Canadian-based technology company to provide the text message communications. We continue to do our very best to protect the security and confidentiality of information you share with the Helpline.

With a simple sign-up and registration process, it’s another convenient way to connect with Helpline supports and receive personalized feedback and guidance from a Quit Coach. 

A reminder that this service is available only for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. If you are from outside of this province we encourage you to search for the quitline that serves your area.
