Quit smoking with a proven program: Walk or Run to Quit

Walk or Run to Quit is a Canadian Cancer Society and Running Room partnership program that supports the use of walking or running to help people quit smoking. Over the course of 10 weeks, training program participants get step by step instructions to learn how to walk or run 5 k plus practical quit smoking resources. The Newfoundland and Labrador Smokers’ Helpline also provides participants with support through referral to their expert quit coaches. Incentive prizes are part of the program for both smokers and their support Buddies.

Why Walk or Run to Quit?

Walk or Run to Quit provides practical support around the top 2 modifiable cancer risk factors: physical activity and smoking. Whether a participant chooses a group training program or the online training program, this program has something for everyone. Walking and running makes quitting smoking easier by taking the edge off cravings and withdrawal symptoms while giving smokers a positive outlet for stress. The social and peer support of group training are the key reasons participants’ succeed in sticking to their goals. It’s for people of all fitness levels and ages!

How does it work?

Coach-led, 10-week training programs are offered in-store at local Running Rooms across Canada or as self-directed, web-based, virtual programs. For smokers who don’t want to do the full program, there is a free Train on Your Own option. Right now, the online programs are open for registration.

• Register for the winter session by January 31, 2018 at 11:59 PM ET.
• Quit smoking by March 14, 2018 and stay smoke-free for 5 consecutive weeks
