Run to Quit Program – Registration Now Open!

March 17th, 2017 by Smokers' Helpline

Run to Quit is an innovative smoking cessation program that helps smokers quit smoking by learning to walk or run 5 km! Walking and running can help smokers cope with discomfort and cravings while cutting down and quitting. The program is for people of all fitness levels and ages.

Run to Quit offers participants 2 ways to participate:
1) Do it Yourself
All participants will receive quit smoking resources and an offer of support from the Newfoundland and Labrador Smokers’ Helpline.
2) Run to Quit Training Programs

Run to Quit Training Programs provide participants with coaching and support from a Running Room Leader in addition to the quit smoking resources and support from the National Quit Smoking Line. Run to Quit Training Programs are available as a virtual 10-week program or as an in-store 10-week program hosted in local Running Room store locations across Canada. Your Running Room leader will provide a simple step by step approach to walking or running 5 km along with quit smoking support.

Better health and feeling better are within your reach with Run to Quit: a smoking cessation program that combines learning to walk or run 5 km with quitting. Many participants, like Jason Sommers, credit Run to Quit with helping them become healthier and less sedentary. Jason says, “I have never exerted myself like this since high school and it feels good to challenge your body. I love the feeling you get after you run. It feels so good to be pushing your body to do something positive. Run to Quit gave me that outlet”.

The in-store clinic at the St. John’s Running Room location starts on April 18th.

Quitline Support – Everyone who registers will receive a call from an expert quit coach with the Newfoundland and Labrador Smokers’ Helpline. Our quit coaches can answer questions about quitting smoking and provide on-going cessation support.

When participants successfully quit smoking, they get entered into a contest for some prizes. When they also do a 5 km walk or run event, they are eligible for more prizes.

Run to Quit is a partnership between Canadian Cancer Society and Running Room Ltd. with funding from Public Health Agency of Canada.
