It’s National Non-Smoking Week (Jan. 21st-27th)

January 22nd, 2018 by Smokers' Helpline

This week Jan. 21st to 27th, 2018, is National Non-Smoking Week.

National Non-Smoking Week is one of the longest running and most important events in Canada’s ongoing public health education efforts. It has been observed for nearly four decades! This is a key time to educate Canadians about the dangers of smoking to help prevent young people from starting to smoke, and to support people who would like to quit smoking.

If you smoke and are looking for support with quitting, we encourage you to check out the various services offered through the Newfoundland and Labrador Smokers’ Helpline. We’re based in St. John’s and we offer a range of supports and programs. You’re invited to choose the program that best fits with your needs and your preferred communication method.

You’re invited to:

Visit us on social media Facebook (search for Newfoundland and Labrador Smokers’ Helpline) or Twitter @smokershelpNL – Share tips and get support from others!

The contact information for the Helpline is easy to find—it’s right on the front and back of every cigarette/tobacco package!

When you connect with us, we have trained smoking cessation coaches who will provide you with helpful information and practical tips to help you move forward in the process of quitting. Have a quick question about what’s out there to help? Great! Connect with us and we can give you a little more information about the various smoking cessation medications/treatments. We can help at all stages–whether you’re just thinking about quitting or whether you have been quit for a few days (or weeks/months!). We’ll also let you know if there’s a smoking cessation program happening locally in your area. If you’d like a more intensive level of support then you can register to receive ongoing follow-up with us–we can arrange to provide several follow-up calls or emails, or you may enroll in our text program which will send you 5 texts per week for up to 12 weeks. Of course, with any of our programs you’re free to discontinue follow-up at any time.

Once again, check it out and we hope to hear from you! We love hearing from people all across the province. We’re here to help!
