Services:
Adult Group Counseling ( Open to )
“You Can Stop by Starting with Us” Program offered on a monthly basis. Offered in workplaces and community groups when interest is sufficient.


Advocacy ( Open to )
The SHL works closely in a support role to ACT in their lobby and advocacy initiatives. Advocate for new and innovative programs and treatment options to be offered in cessation.

C.A.R.E Fax Referral Program ( Open to All )
Community Action and Referral Effort. Health professionals may use this Fax Referral Program to refer individuals directly to the Smokers’ Helpline, which then provides proactive follow-up services to those individuals.

Community Education ( Open to All )
Presentations and information sessions are offered in schools, workplaces and community groups upon request.

Facilitator Training ( Open to All )
A one-day workshop aimed at training health professionals and community leaders to facilitate an adult cessation group. Trained facilitators use the “You Can Stop by Starting with Us” Guide and are encouraged to join then SHL network to stay current on cessation news.  Referrals to and from group programs are made daily. Trained facilitators access the incentive program which includes free resources and prizes for their group members.


Health Fairs ( Open to All )
The SHL is involved in a variety of health fairs throughout the year and is available upon request. Trained SHL counselors who can provide brief counseling and referrals staff all Health Fairs.

Mass Media Campaigns ( Open to All )
Television, radio and print ads aimed at increasing awareness of cessation services, support, and treatment options through the Smokers’ Helpline.

Online Counseling ( Open to All )
E-Counseling- Individuals may access direct, private counseling services through an e-mail link on the Smokers’ Helpline website.
 
Ask a Counselor MessageBoard – Individuals may receive support with quitting and answers to questions about tobacco control issues by posting messages on the Smokers’ Helpline website.
 
Peer to Peer Support– Individuals can provide and receive support in quitting smoking by posting public messages on the Smokers’ Helpline website.


Referrals ( Open to All )
Incoming– The Smokers’ Helpline accepts referrals from family, friends, and health professionals who request  the Smokers’ Helpline  offer services to individuals who smoke.
 
Outgoing – The Smokers’ Helpline refers clients to other community services and supports as part of their quit smoking/wellness plan.
 
 Transfers – The SHL also has the capability to now seamlessly transfer clients who now call the SHL to another referral in the community without ending the call.


Resource Library ( Open to All )
Provincial clearinghouse for information on smoking cessation and tobacco control.  The SHL is a central hub of information and support tools for those working in tobacco control and cessation. Books, magazines, pamphlets, videos, posters, and promotional materials are available on loan or for purchase.

SHL Network ( Open to All )
The Smokers’ Helpline network offers members the most current information and news regarding cessation and tobacco control. E-mail bulletins are sent weekly or as news arises provincially, nationally, and internationally. The network consists of over 312 members from across the province and all are welcome to join.

Telephone-based Counseling ( Open to )
Counseling offered by trained smoking cessation counselors who are also trained in suicide intervention and qualified health professionals.
Brief – Client receives one reactive and/or proactive call and self-help materials.

Moderate – Client receives 2-3 proactive counseling calls and information package.

Intensive – Client receives 6 proactive counseling calls and an information package. *(Special populations receive up to 12 proactive calls).



Website - Adult / Youth / HP's ( Open to All )
Access to chat forums, counseling, free information and research about tobacco use. The website is separated into two areas, youth and adult. In the adult area, there is a chat forum specifically for health professionals where they can ask questions, and discuss best practices, recent news, and research.
